A pediment is the triangular gable found above the horizontal entablature, typically supported by columns in classical architecture. Originally used in Greek temples, the pediment became a hallmark of Renaissance and Neoclassical buildings. It serves both decorative and structural purposes, often featuring sculptural elements within the tympanum. Modern interpretations appear in doorways, facades, and furniture design.
