Taj Bangalore reimagines the airport hotel as an extension of Bengaluru’s identity, bringing together hospitality, culture, and a strong sense of place at one of India’s most significant aviation gateways. Located adjacent to Terminal 1 at Kempegowda International Airport and developed in collaboration with Bengaluru International Airport Limited, the expansion adds 220 guest rooms, including standard doubles and premium corner suites. Oriented for privacy and expansive runway views, the rooms build upon the luxury established in the first phase while accommodating the needs of both business and leisure travellers.
The architecture draws from regional spatial traditions. Organised in a C-shaped configuration, the building evokes the openness of courtyard typologies, with two wings framing landscaped views and introducing daylight into the interiors. The extension is seamlessly integrated with the existing hotel through a ground-level corridor that aligns the lobbies along a shared axis and a third-level bridge that unifies the wings while lending a distinctive character to the façade.
At its centre is a five-level atrium illuminated by a skylit roof, conceived as the social heart of the hotel. A sculptural installation inspired by the banyan tree, emblematic of Bengaluru’s Garden City identity, anchors the space, while landscaped sunken courts and a semi-open restaurant overlooking the runway enrich the guest experience. A gallery-like passage connecting the two phases showcases art and craft traditions from across India, with a particular focus on local artisans.
The interiors reference Bengaluru’s architectural heritage through a palette of Serpeggiante marble, wood, greenery, and muted tones accented with green and blue. Custom furnishings, lighting, carpets, and wall panels reinterpret motifs drawn from local craftsmanship and handwoven textiles. Clad in locally sourced Sadarhalli granite and glass, the building balances permanence with transparency, creating an experience that is both contemporary in expression and deeply rooted in its context.
